Spectra Reading — Grade 7
advancedThis course gives students practice in citing evidence from the text to support an answer, writing a one-sentence summary, finding the main idea, and evaluating an author's purpose, point of view, and balance. Students also learn to evaluate text organization, identify forms of non-fiction such as biography and essay, analyze conflict, resolution, and the main character, note sensory details, determine new words from context, explain words set in italics, and read steps in order to make a timeline. Lessons feature short stories and non-fiction passages focused on food science, manatees, the mangrove forest, and America's first railroad.
