The Zuhra Assessment
The Zuhra Assessment is a school's own achievement test, built and taken directly on this website. Designed for students in kindergarten through grade 12, it is given twice each school year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
What It Covers
The assessment includes subtests across key subject areas. For early grades, subtests include listening and word analysis. Across grade levels, subjects include reading, vocabulary, language and written expression, spelling, capitalization and punctuation, mathematics, computation, science, and social studies. The exact set of subtests changes by grade. Every question matches what the grade has studied, allowing the final report to identify the exact strand of a subject a student needs taught next.
How It Is Given
Nothing is timed. A student works through one subtest at a time and may stop and return on another day within a two-week period.
Students in kindergarten through grade 2 sit with a test administrator who reads each question aloud. The child views the answer choices on a second screen and points or speaks their answer. Starting in grade 3, students sit alone and take the assessment on the site. From grade 3 onward, certain reading and mathematics questions ask for a written response. Two teachers mark every written answer.
Screen Tools for Every Student
Every student has the same set of built-in tools on the screen:
- Larger text controls
- Three color themes
- A highlighter tool for reading passages
- A scratch area for working through problems
- An audio tool that reads questions aloud (available for all sections except the reading subtest)
What the Report Shows
For each subtest, the report lists:
- The total number of items and how many the student answered
- The points earned and the percent correct
- A performance band (Secure, Working on it, or Not yet) set by the school's teacher panel
- The student's standing among peers in the same grade and testing season at the student's school
- A breakdown of performance across the strands within the subtest
Who Sees the Report
The school releases the report as soon as all scoring and marking checks are finished. Once released, parents and students can review the report directly on their own site pages, and the student's classroom teacher can view it as well.
Islamic Subjects
The Zuhra Assessment also includes a second part for Islamic subjects: Qur'an reading, Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Tafseer. This part is given during the same two sittings in the fall and the spring.
Students are evaluated against the level of the specific course they are taking rather than their school grade, as students begin learning these subjects at different times. For the Qur'an reading subtest, a teacher listens to the student and marks what was read. The other subjects are answered directly on the website just like the rest of the assessment. The report for these subjects follows the same format and includes the same reporting details.
