Privacy Policy
The short version
We collect the information needed to teach, to run a school's classes and to bill for a plan, and we use it for those purposes. We do not sell personal information. We do not show advertising, and we do not use children's information for advertising or marketing. Payment card and bank details are handled by our payment processor and are never stored by us.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
Islamic Masterclass is run by EPIC (Eden Prairie Islamic Center) and Mubeen Books (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the information we collect through the site and its services, whether you use them as a parent or guardian, as a student, as a school or its staff, or as a visitor. It applies together with our Terms of Use.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us. When an adult creates an account, we collect a name, an email address and a password. When a parent adds a learner, we collect the name they choose for the child and, if they give them, the child's grade and gender. When you subscribe, our payment processor collects your payment details; we receive confirmation of the payment and the subscription's status, not the card or account number. When you write to us, we keep what you wrote.
Information a school gives us. A school that uses the site to run its registration, classes and fees enters or imports information about its families and students: parents' names and contact details, including phone, address and an emergency contact; each student's name, date of birth and grade; the enrolment records, class rosters, attendance, fees and payment records the school keeps; the school's policy and each family's signature of it; and any notes the school or the family records. A parent invited by their school may confirm or correct these details. This information is the school's, and we hold and process it on the school's behalf and on its instructions.
Information created by learning. As a learner uses the site we record which lessons they opened and when, their answers and scores on quizzes and graded pages, their practice work, certificates and achievements, work handed in for an assignment, and, where a lesson asks for one, a recorded spoken or video answer.
Information people write on the site. Messages between teachers, students and parents; posts and replies in a class discussion; peer reviews of a classmate's work; comments on class recordings; teachers' announcements; and a parent's absence reports.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we and our hosting providers keep standard server logs, which include the address your device connects from, the pages requested and the browser used. We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your choices; see section 11. We keep a record of actions taken by administrators and school staff so that a school can account for changes to its records.
3. How we use information
- to provide the service: open the right lessons, save progress, issue certificates, run classes, take attendance and show a learner's work to the people entitled to see it;
- to bill for plans and, for schools, to collect the fees the school has set under the authorization a family signs;
- to communicate with you about your account, your child's school, and changes to the service;
- to keep the service secure, to prevent misuse and to investigate problems;
- to understand how the service is used so that we can improve it, using our own records and not third-party analytics;
- to meet our legal obligations.
We do not use personal information to build profiles for advertising, and we do not sell it or rent it to anyone.
4. Children's information
The site is used by children, and it is built so that a child never has an account unless an adult creates one for them.
- An adult creates the learner. Signing up requires an adult's email address. A learner is created under a parent's account or under a school's account. A child cannot register on their own.
- Student logins. A school, or a parent, may give a student who is at least six years old a login of their own. The adult who creates it can reset it. Such a login opens only the courses the student's classes teach and the student's own work; it has no email address, receives no marketing, and cannot be used to purchase anything. A younger child uses the site with a parent, on the parent's login, and the work is recorded under the child.
- Consent. A parent consents to our collection of their child's information when they create the learner. When a school creates learners or logins for its students, the school confirms that it has the authority and the parental consent it needs, and we rely on the school for that consent.
- What we collect from children. Only what is needed to teach: a name, the learning record described above, and what the child writes in the classroom spaces described in section 6. We do not knowingly collect any other information from a child, and we never use a child's information for advertising or marketing.
- Parents' rights. A parent can review everything recorded about their child, correct it, remove a learner and delete the account from their account page, and can ask us to delete a child's information by writing to us. A parent can also refuse further collection by removing the learner.
- For schools. Where the school holds the family's registration, requests about a student's information go to the school, and we act on the school's instructions.
5. How information is shared
We share personal information only in these cases.
- With the people it is for. A learner's work is visible to the learner, to the adult who holds the account, to a parent the school has linked to the child, to the child's teachers and their assistants for their class, and to the school's administrators for the parts of the school they run. Site administrators may access accounts to provide support and to keep the service running, and their access is recorded.
- With service providers. We use companies that host the site and its data, process payments, store and deliver class recordings, convert text to speech so that pages can be read aloud, and, when enabled, deliver email. They may process information only to provide their service to us and under contracts that require them to protect it.
- With a school. A school sees the information about its own students, families and staff described in section 2.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of a child, of other users, or of us.
- If our organisation changes. If the service passes to another organisation, personal information may pass with it under this policy, and we will tell you.
6. Messages, posts and recordings
The site has spaces where people write: direct messages between a teacher, a student and the student's parent; class discussions; peer review of assignments; comments on class recordings; and teachers' announcements. None of these are public. A post can be read only by the members of the class it belongs to, and a message only by its participants. Teachers and administrators can read, hide or remove any post and lock a discussion, and a parent can read their child's messages. Class recordings a school uploads are shown only to the students they are set for.
7. Payments
Payments for plans, and school fees collected through the site, are processed by a third-party payment processor. Your card or bank details go from your browser to the payment processor directly. We receive and keep a reference to the payment method, its last four digits, and the status of each charge, so that subscriptions can renew, school fees can be collected under the authorization you sign, and receipts can be shown to you.
8. Security
We protect personal information with measures appropriate to its sensitivity: encryption in transit and at rest, access limited to the people and systems that need it, and records of administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without authorisation; if we learn of a breach affecting you or your child, we will tell you as the law requires.
9. How long we keep information
We keep personal information while the account it belongs to is active. When an account holder deletes their account, the subscription is cancelled and the learners under it and their learning records are deleted. Billing records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require. A record that a person was a member of a school or class, and the school's own records of its families, are kept for the school under its retention rules, and a family may ask the school or us to remove them. Records of administrative actions are kept for accountability.
10. Your choices and rights
You can see and correct most of your information, cancel a plan, remove a learner or delete your account from your account page. You can ask us at any time to access, correct, copy or delete the personal information we hold about you or your child by writing to info@islamicmasterclass.com. We will verify the request and respond. Where a school holds the information, we will refer the request to the school or act on its instructions.
11. Cookies
We use cookies that are needed for the site to work: to keep you signed in and to remember choices such as your display settings and which learner or workspace you are viewing. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party analytics cookies or tracking pixels. Some pages show video in a third-party video player, which may set its own cookies under that company's privacy policy. You can clear or block cookies in your browser; without the sign-in cookie the site cannot keep you signed in.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will post the change on the site with a new effective date and, where we can, tell you by email. If a change would let us use children's information in a new way, we will ask for consent first.
