Grade 2 reading
This check is given by a Test Administrator
Decoding, reading aloud and retelling have to be heard, so a Test Administrator gives this check and marks it. It runs on two screens: the child sees large print and nothing to press, and the Test Administrator sees the same items with the answers, a timer and a running count. Grade 2 is the last grade where reading is checked this way.
- Test Administrator: open the session on this device. A six-letter code appears.
- Child: on a second device, open the join page and type the code. Or, on one computer, open the child’s screen in a second window on a shared display.
- Allow 35 to 45 minutes, in a quiet place. The child needs paper and a pencil for the last section.
- Seven sections, in order. Section F, a story read aloud to the child, cannot be skipped: it is the only part that tells a reading problem from a language problem.
- Word sections stop after five missed in a row. The words after that are not given and are not counted as wrong.
- If this page is refreshed by accident, the check picks up where it was. The copy that makes that possible, including the names and dates on the start form, stays in this browser tab only, and is deleted when the results appear or the tab is closed. Nothing is sent anywhere.
