Grade 1 reading

This check is given by a Test Administrator

Letter sounds, blending, reading aloud and retelling have to be heard, so a Test Administrator gives this check and marks it. It runs on two screens: the child sees large print and nothing to press, and the Test Administrator sees the same items with the answers, a timer and a running count.

  • Test Administrator: open the session on this device. A six-letter code appears.
  • Child: on a second device, open the join page and type the code. Or, on one computer, open the child’s screen in a second window on a shared display.
  • Allow 30 to 40 minutes, in a quiet place. The child needs paper and a pencil for the last section.
  • Nine sections, in order. Section H, a story read aloud to the child, cannot be skipped: it is the only part that tells a reading problem from a language problem.
  • If this page is refreshed by accident, the check picks up where it was. The copy that makes that possible, including the names and dates on the start form, stays in this browser tab only, and is deleted when the results appear or the tab is closed. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Before the session opens

These print at the top of the results. They stay in this browser tab and are not sent anywhere or saved to an account.
