Kindergarten math
This check is given by a Test Administrator
A five-year-old cannot reliably work a screen alone, and counting has to be watched, so a Test Administrator gives this check and marks it. It runs on two screens: the child sees the pictures and numbers, and the Test Administrator sees what to say and what counts as right.
- Test Administrator: open the session on this device. A six-letter code appears.
- Child: on a second device, open the join page and type the code. Or, on one computer, open the child’s screen in a second window on a shared display.
- Have ready: 20 counters (buttons, beans or coins); a book and a crayon; two cups of clearly different sizes with water, rice or sand; paper and a pencil.
- Allow 30 to 40 minutes. The child answers out loud, by pointing, or with the counters. There is no timer.
- Seven sections. A section that is secure offers a few grade 1 items; giving them is optional.
- If this page is refreshed by accident, the check picks up where it was. The copy that makes that possible, including the names and dates on the start form, stays in this browser tab only, and is deleted when the results appear or the tab is closed. Nothing is sent anywhere.
