Islamic Masterclass

Spectra Literature — Grade 3

beginner

This course covers two old books retold, Kalila wa Dimna and the Shahnameh. In Kalila wa Dimna, students encounter animal fables told by two jackals at a lion's court, placed inside a frame story older than Aesop that travelled from Sanskrit into Persian and Arabic. In the Shahnameh, the Persian book of kings, students follow Zal raised by the Simorgh bird, and the hero Rustem with his horse Rakhsh from his father's birth to his rescues of a foolish king.
